The views are expansive from the moment you get out of the car and there is good variety to the terrain to keep things interesting. I first walked to Mynydd Ty’n-tyle and then onto Cefn y Rhondda.

The trail just down from Mynydd Ty’n-tyle takes you in amongst the wind mills. | Pentax K 28mm f3.5 @ f8.

There are a few different routes to Cefn y Rhondda, I took the path into the wind farm (which, a sign warns, is private land, so walk it at your own risk). I then followed the good gravel track all the way to the forest and into it. This then leads pretty directly to the trig point, which is just off of the path. Views are better than expected due to a lot of the forest being very young.

The gravel road makes walking easy, whatever the weather. | Pentax K 28mm f3.5 @ f8.

The trig point is no longer the high point as there has been some quarry work that has lead to a line of rocks / debris above the trig point. This provides a good place to sit down with extensive views North. On a clear day you’d be able to see the Brecon Beacons. You can also see a few hills to your right, including Mynydd Gethin and Mynydd Aberdare.

The views are impressive throughout, with added drama from changeable weather. | Pentax K 28mm f3.5 @ f8.

A quiet ridgeway walk, I hadn’t seen a soul so far.
