Black Mixen is unusual in that the trig point is right next to a large weather station, something that has no doubt been controversial. The walk to Black Mixen from Great Rhos is very gentle, following wide and smooth grass paths. You go down a gentle descent with views down the valley towards the military weapons testing centre, before rising up towards Black Mixen summit.
The trig point is raised on a small mound, possibly bronze age, very close by the weather station, but views are broad nonetheless.
The walk to Bache Hill, the lowest of the three summits and one of the lowest mountains in Wales, is gentle and short so it is highly recommended that you continue onto it.

I rode this trig point in 1950 on my first motor cycle. I was just 16 yoa then. There is a police aerial mast near it. The weather station must be relatively new?
Hi Cyril, I don’t know to be honest, it didn’t seem particularly new, looked established. I’ve only ever visited this area once in my life, not sure if I will ever be back.
