Allt Lwyd is a short – but steep – walk from Talybont Reservoir. You can walk from Allt Lwyd across ridgeways to Pen Y Fan and tick off a few mountains along the way. There is a small car park directly below the main trail up from Talybont reservoir and it is only 1.5m from that car park to the summit – but you’ll ascend just over 1,500ft in that time.
The trail is easy to follow and pretty easy – I did this walk with my 8 year old daughter and, despite some complaining, she completed it without any assistance. Views are great all the way up and from the summit.
The road alongside the reservoir is visible towards bottom right, this is where the small car park is. | Tamron Adaptall SP 28-80 @ 28mm, f8.
The ascent is pretty relentless in terms of steepness, but this does keep the route short. | Tamron Adaptall SP 28-80 @ 28mm, f8.
Even when wet underfoot the tufted grass patches are dried out by the wind and offer plenty of places to rest and chances to take photos. | Tamron Adaptall SP 28-80 @ 28mm, f8.
As you near the summit the views really open up. | Tamron Adaptall SP 28-80 @ 28mm, f8.
The final stretch is muddier and tuftier, there is also a small pond. The views broaden even further. | Tamron Adaptall SP 28-80 @ 28mm, f8.
