Part of the big three in South Wales, Corn Du is recognisable from most parts of South and Central Wales.
If you are walking Pen y Fan it would be madness not to also walk Corn Du, and vice versa.
The views from Corn Du are very similar to those from Pen y Fan, but you can frame Corn Du against the mountains West really nicely, especially the arc of Fan Gyhirych.
It is just an absolute must-do mountain if you are tackling this range, and given that it is right next to Pen y Fan, it is also the easiest to tick off if you are doing Pen y Fan anyway.
Corn Du was the last summit for me of the day – 7 in total – and marked my completion of this section of the Brecon Beacons. Only the Black Mountain range above Crickhowell (12 mountains) remains. The feeling of looking in every direction from Corn Du at mountains that I’d walked, all in the past few weeks, was quite something.
