I walked the horseshoe anti-clockwise, making Craig Gwaun Taf the final mountain on the route, before a long and gentle descent – with one steep section – back to the car.

You get excellent views back to Corn Du, Pen y Fan and the whole Beacons Horseshoe and the route up to Pen y Fan via Craig-Gwaun-Taf is very popular.

The horseshoe is a highly recommended walk, and with a slight detour you can take in eight summits on it (or seven if you are not counting Fan y Big which has been downgraded). I’ll share the route and some of the best photos as a blog post.
