At 602m Foel Fraith does not qualify as a mountain, but is part of the Black Mountain range in the West of the Brecon Beacons range. If you are walking this ridgeway – taking in Garreg Lwyd, Garreg Las, Waun Lefrith, Bannau Sir Gaer – Picws Du, Fan Brycheiniog and Fan Hir – then you will walk over Foel Fraith.
The ascent and descent either side of Foel Fraith is gentle, and the summit – marked by a small pile of stones – is only a very small detour.
Walking is easy with a clear path and nice ground and access from the nearby road is good, so it is quite an accessible hill.
