Parking is near a small reservoir, which is now a popular fishing spot. The last bit of road is pretty rough, so take it carefully as you could easily ground your car in a couple of the potholes.

The track from the car park is wide and easy to follow, ascending gently towards the steeper paths taking up to the top of Y Domen Fawr. The paths are well walked and provide good woodland views early on, followed by broader valleys vistas and views towards the Brecon Beacons.

The walk is pretty easy and can be completed quickly if you were just wanting a hill summit and return to the car.

The summit is marked by some random debris and an overturned bench. A lot of the hills in Blaenau Gwent have no features on their summit at all, so even an overturned bench is better than nothing.

  1. My local hill. During lockdown when we were limited to a 5 miles limit I used to walk it from home which I would stretch the walk to 6 miles as a loop. Sadly though it can be accessed by those who want to fly tip.
