Pen-rhiw-Ifor is a disused tip that is now one of the higher hills in Torfaen, and close to the much more famous Blorenge.

Like most disused tips it is a popular place for bikers – motor and peddle – but is likely to be a quiet spot early in the morning and I had it to myself with the layby completely empty of vehicles as well – although the nearby Keepers Pond was already busy.

This is a short walk at just around 1m and the paths are easy to follow, with a couple of steep sections. You could easily wind your way around a few different paths to make the route longer, but I was just here to tick it off.

Views are good and the place would be a great place to bike so it is not the worst hill I’ve ticked off by a long way.

I walked the Blorenge afterwards, leaving my car in the same layby rather than driving up to the Blorenge car park, you can also walk down to Keepers pond as well.
