Buckland Hill is a 316m hill near Llangynidr that is part open fields and part heavily wooded. Sadly the trig point is in the heavily wooded area and is a real battle to get to.

The walk up is very gentle, with clear paths and good views. | Tamron Adaptall SP 24-48 @ 24mm, f11.

The route starts by parking just off the corner of the main road, there is room for one or two cars here. You then follow, very briefly, the Beacons Way before following some well-marked and well-walked footpaths up the hill.

These walks take you through some fields and then some open areas and are often very smooth grass and really easy walking.

Lovely views as you wind your way up the hill and good views from near the top, before you dive into the woodland.

As you can see from my track, I spent a while trying to penetrate thick brambles and fallen trees to no avail, before heading West along the wall a bit further at which point the way to the trig point opens up a little, still not easy, but much less brambles. There are two points over the barbed wire fence, both of them improvised stone stiles. The second, further West, is the one I came back over and that offers the best way to the trigpoint.

You really have to earn this trig point. | Tamron Adaptall SP 24-48 @ 24mm, f11.

After my exertions I sat on the grass and took in the views, making this a really worthwhile hill to walk, even if it is a shame the trig point is pretty much buried and unloved.
