Waun Fach is the highest mountain in the Black Mountains range, although with a large flat top it is not the most dramatic. The nearby Pen y Gadair Fawr is much more distinctive and looks higher, even though it is only 800m.

Waun Fach is accessible from a few different directions, but I completed as part of a 17.4 mile loop, when Waun Fach marks pretty much the halfway point of the walk.

The views North of lower levels covered in a patchwork quilt of fields is good, but the flat top limits the views in other directions a little bit.

The good thing about this walk is the halfway point is the highest point in the Black Mountains, so it is definitely a mountain worth walking. However, there are others that are more photogenic on the walk.
