Black Mountain is a 703m mountain in the Black Mountains range. It is just below Hay Bluff and the summit is marked by a small pile of rocks. The top is quite indistinct with lots of low growing purple heather. A clear gravel and stone path cuts across it and continues down the ridgeway – it is the Offa’s Dyke trail goes from coast to coast.
The rock path takes you through some boggy areas and next to some small ponds. The path is very well maintained and makes this a walk you can tackle in all weathers, confident that you won’t be knee deep in boggy ground.
I summited this mountain in pretty grey and misty weather, so I’m not sure what the views would be like on a good day, but the top is not very photogenic or dramatic.
