The route above is a nice 7 mile circular walk taking in the 428m high hill Mynydd Ty’n-tyle and 481m high hill Cefn y Rhondda.
This is a really good walk with fairly minimal ascent – given the height of the hills – good parking and lots of good trails to follow. The views are expansive from the moment you get out of the car and there is good variety to the terrain to keep things interesting.
Parking is in a small, dedicated car park at Penrhys shrine, but you can park above the estate along a quiet road if you wanted to avoid the start of the walk taking you past that estate.
The tracks are good throughout, and well worn by motorbikes, and you will more than likely see a few scramblers on the walk. You can follow the pathway up from near an abandoned building with a striking blue roof. You follow bike routes alongside a fence until you reach a clearly defined peak marking the summit of the hill.
Here you will find two crosses of remembrance. Apart from that there is nothing to mark the summit. Views are good along the ridgeway from here, with a clear route to Cefn y Rhondda.
