Bryn is a 562m hill in the Central Brecon Beacons. The route above also takes in Waun Rydd, a 769m mountain, but you could just tick off the hill and head back down again. I only walked Waun Rydd again because it was the last day of the year and I had a mountain ascent target to hit!

Parking in a layby near Pencelli, opposite Pencelli Castle. Nice country lane walking followed by clearly marked footpaths onto the open hillside – at which points you have multiple tracks taking you up to the summit.

Summit is marked by a cairn, but the true high point (2 metres higher) is not marked and barely looks any higher. There is one clear path onwards towards Waun Rydd, although smaller paths provide a more direct route to the summit point.
