This is the first summit on a 9 mountain circular walk. You can approach the summit in a couple of ways, you can follow the gently ascending footpath and go past the summit onto the lower ridgeway and you then turn back and ascend to the highest point. Or, you could follow our tracks and cut right up the very steep side to make a direct beeline straight to the summit.

Cutting up the steep part is a shorter distance, but it is a very tough way to start this walk and looking back I think I might have preferred the longer route, and that might even have been faster as I really struggled with the direct route!

The summit is a grassy high point on quite a nice, gentle ridgeway and is marked by a bit of wood. The summit isn’t much to look at, but the views of surrounding mountains is impressive and sets you up for the rest of the walk as you can see the circular route you will be taking.

You can follow the ridgeway gently down and up to the next summit, with the extensive views gradually changing and revealing different angles as you do so.
