This is a nice walk that keeps you on pavements and pram-friendly paths, but takes in a lot of seafront. You can stop at a range of cafes, hotels, bars, ice-cream shops and fish and chip outlets so it is a great place to wander and rest along the way. The route goes as far along the coastal path as you can before the good path ends, so you can happily take a pram on this entire route.

Porthcawl Lighthouse
The Lighthouse is photogenic, but at this moment in time most of this area is closed off for improvements to the sea defences.

You can try to park for free along the seafront road, it is worth one drive by just in case. Failing that you can park in the huge car park just behind the road – but you will have to pay and display and I’ve yet to find the card-reader working here.

Monet-like Sky
The boardwalk along this section makes this coastal walk very accessible.

You can walk to the amusements at Sandy Bay if you want to, here you’ll find lots more food and drink as well if you need it. However, this route just takes you along the seafront all the way to Rest Bay. The walk is easy, flat most of the way with only gentle uphill sections as you leave town. If you don’t have a pram you can follow footpaths along the cliff edge as well – you can get a pram over most of these as well, but it does get bumpy in a lot of places so be warned!

Power, Porthcawl
Porthcawl is great in a storm at high tide.

You’re spoilt for choice in terms of places to stop, eat and drink along the way. We always enjoy a stop at the Atlantic Hotel as we’ve found the food and drink as good as the views and atmosphere here. The route is kid-friendly as you can access a few different beaches along the way to keep them amused.
