A quick loop around Newport Wetlands, taking in some of the Wales Coast Path, East Usk Lighthouse, a playpark and a lovely café next to wildlife ponds.

Newport Wetlands is a very nice place for a stroll because you have plenty of wildlife, a playpark, nature ponds and general bughouses along with a very nice café overlooking a busy pond. You’ll see a lot of different birds here, including the odd rare one. Most importantly for a lot of walkers it is flat and generally very accessible by pram or wheelchair.

Plenty of dragon flies in the summer.

This route takes you in a loop using the Wales Coast Path to swing around until you reach the Lighthouse, at which point you head back towards the visitor centre and cafe. You can extend the loop further along the coast path and pick up several different paths to the cafe if you want. The park is quite a good one, with a zip line and lots of places for kids to climb and explore. It can get muddy if it rains though.
