Mynydd Pen-y-fan is a 407m hill in Caerphilly, easily accessible from a decent car park at Pen-y-fan pond – which makes for a pleasant short walk in itself. Views from the off are good as you’re parking quite high up – which also reduces the ascent needed to summit the hill and tap the trig point. The trig point is on private land, but it is easily accessible – as ever, leave no trace and respect the great outdoors and it shouldn’t be a problem.
This is a quiet hill and you’ll only see the odd walker or jogger and plenty of sheep and some horses near the summit. The views from the summit are impressive in every direction and are a good representation of what the South Wales Valleys are all about.
