This is a gentle circular walk taking in a nice hill summit and a large cross above Craig Rhiwargan.
You can park just before the cattle grid where there is room for a few cars. Cross the road and you’ll see access to the hill, which is a landscaped tip. You can wander around this area, or head straight up, following a mixture of paths and sheep trails.
The summit is smooth, short grass and forms a fairly narrow ridgeway that takes you to the highest point. Enjoy 360 degree views of this rather lonely part of the Welsh valleys. I retraced my steps back along the ridgeway and continue North, dropping down the other side of the hill, tracing along the fence until I found a stile to hop over, taking you towards the edge of the main hill and to the large cross.
This gives you extensive views over Cwm and up and down that valley. I followed the edge North, keeping the steep descent on my right. The route continued to be peaceful, with only the occasional horse for company. Eventually I break left, back onto the common and following more paths and offroad trails until i get back to the road.
Rather than just following the road I take the Sirhowy valley walk with takes you across the grass and is a nice path to follow. I cut back up to the road and head back to the car.
This is a nice little loop in a very peaceful part of the valleys. Good views and some decent crags and interesting trails.
