Free roadside parking on the edge of Caldicot leads you along some pavements to the edge of the Vanishing Lake, which, in dry summers should have vanished. You then double back and cross the dry lake bed and enjoy the peaceful paths in the Castle grounds before ending up at the castle. You can then grab some food and drink in Caldicot and return to the car.
